Facades, roofs and steel – bringing all our skills into play

Construction of a 600 ton steel structure with associated roof and facade solution that encloses a 30-metre tall biomass boiler at Aarhus Harbour

Give Steel collaborated with COWI on the design and manufacture of the steel structure, which encapsulates AAK’s new gigantic biomass boiler. The boiler is 30 metres tall and almost 600 tons of steel were used in its construction. This was a very complex project with a short deadline, which made it a challenge and the process required considerable development and specialised solutions.

In addition to the steel structure that encapsulates the biomass boiler, Give Steel supplied all the primary and secondary steel. Sandwich panel facades and trapezoidal roofs including roof construction were also installed at AAK’s new large boiler hall.

Easier coordination for project owner and contractor
Give Steel worked in a solution-oriented way with the customer through the entire design and planning phase. This allowed us to achieve strong synergies in the structural design and the choice of solutions that made good economic sense.

The advantage of an integrated facade and roof solution that includes thin sheet decking in combination with the load-bearing steel structures is that it ensures a coordinated, coherent and optimised solution for the customer.

This streamlines the process and can take all parts of the structure into account ahead of production and assembly. The same advantages are achieved when seeking solutions that use roof trapeze decks and composite decking.

Using a single supplier for the entire task means fewer interfaces and thus leads to better-thought-out, more coherent structural design. In practice, this relieves the project owner and contractor from having to take on greater coordination responsibility in terms of buildability and timeliness throughout the entire construction process. This ultimately means significant savings because last minute solutions and delays are avoided.
