Transparency and traceability ensure proven quality
Our documentation and quality assurance processes provide full traceability of every steel component, from the steel mill to final installation. This is crucial for projects involving complex steel structures, strict quality standards and ambitious sustainability targets.
Give Steel tracks the steel to ensure we have complete control over its source and quality grade, even when used in combinations to make our many different components. A new IT system helps to streamline our ability to follow all steel profiles from start to finish, while at the same time facilitating the task of documentation.
Steel from the rolling mills is labelled upon arrival at the factory and given a unique certificate and batch number in our IT system. This small label follows it throughout production, allowing our quality department to monitor that everything is going according to plan. Finally, all frames, beams and other steel components are given a new label that refers to all information, so customers know exactly what they are getting.
“The new system ensures full traceability and reduces the risk of errors. Our quality department has become more efficient, so we have complete confidence in the level of quality we deliver to our customers.” – Maylo Wilson, Quality Manager at Give Steel.
From manual workflows to streamlined quality assurance processes
Our employees receive the steel when it arrives at our factory in Brande and ensure that the correct information is entered into the system. This is the only time in the entire process where manual entry is necessary, because delivery notes are often copies or handwritten. Everything is double-checked by our quality department, so we know that it has been entered correctly.
Give Steel’s system is unique and allows us to clarify documentation in advance and gives customers transparency into our processes while we are doing the work they have contracted us with. Before this, traceability was an entirely manual and overly cumbersome process because of the many tons of steel that came through the factory on a weekly basis. As the system is still brand new, our quality department closely monitors its performance to ensure that everything functions as intended.
The individual plates and beams from the rolling mills have a batch number that shows which steel batch the item comes from. The steel mills always retain a test certificate for every batch they make, which can be re-examined for posterity.
“It’s all connected in the IT system. We can see the exact volume of CO2 emissions in everything we produce – even when it’s made from a mix of steel from different batches.” – Maylo.
