New ESG report from Give Steel: Data, documentation and social responsibility in the supply chain

Give Steel’s ESG report 2025 documents a year with notable progress in working on CO2 reduction, transparency and improved data for responsible decision.

The requirements applied to the industry are changing rapidly. Our customers and partners expect more than a strong product nowadays – they expect documentation, transparency and responsibility in the value chain. ESG is therefore part of our strategy and a natural part of the way we run our business.

To cope with an increasingly unsafe world and growing requirements applied to supply chains, risk management and sustainability, the ability to adapt is vital. That’s why we continue to concentrate on ESG to create value for our customers, employees and partners.

The four central themes of Give Steel’s sustainability strategy are explained in the report: CO2 reduction, risk management, transparency through better data and sustainable development.

The supply chain will be enhanced with higher requirements and better screening

The supply chain has been a key focus area for risk-screening suppliers and implementation of the Supplier Code of Conduct. The systematic approach boosts transparency and supports a more responsible choice of materials.

Turkey has been phased-out as a recipient of oxide scale and all steel scrap is now processed within the EU as part of a more controlled recipient chain. We have initiated a major project concerning supplier performance: “Supplier Scorecard”, in which ESG is one of the parameters we use to measure supplier performance.

Give Steel sources 85% of all its steel within Europe. That leaves 15% sourced outside Europe, with two high risk countries for which we will begin due diligence in 2026.

Combating climate change becomes more specific

We received official approval for Give Steel’s climate targets in the Science Based Targets initiative (SBTi) in 2025, which marks an important step towards Net Zero by 2050.

Documentation has been improved by new EPDs, including for CO2-reduced steel structures.

We also launched a CO2 hotline to get closer to consultants and their decision-making processes, thus being able to make responsible decisions and choice of material according to the best available information.

Give Steel was certified according to ISO 9001 and ISO 14001, which documents a systematic approach to quality and environment management.

Circularity in practice: from waste to resource

We are maintaining our goal of zero landfill. In close consultation with our waste partners, we have introduced a circular solution that transforms iron shot from our centrifugal cleaners to recyclable briquettes in Sweden, which can be used by European steel mills. That makes us independent of steel shavings for mixing – and we minimise some of the problems associated with handling iron shot.

ESG closer to our business

Due to changes in the EU Omnibus rules, ESG has been embedded more broadly across the business organisationally. That means working with ESG is integrated to a greater extent in the daily decisions and processes within the individual departments, becoming a natural part of their work and therefore closer to operations and development.

The social bottom line

Social sustainability continues to be a key focus for Give Steel, and we ended the year with a social percentage of 11.39%, generating a social value of no less than DKK 13,222,493.

GROW’s Social Sustainability Calculator was updated to a new platform in 2025, making it easier for companies to document their contribution to society through social employment.
