Q&A – Project Planning<\/strong><\/strong><\/h3>\n\n\n\n

Q: How should a GSY BEAM\u00ae<\/sup> be built into a concrete structure?<\/strong><\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n

A: On our website, we have prepared a set of <\/em>principle specifications<\/em><\/a> that are based on typical tried and tested construction principles, showing in which contexts and how a composite GSY BEAM\u00ae<\/sup> can be built into other structures.<\/em><\/p>\n\n\n\n

Q: We need to incorporate GSY BEAMTM <\/sup>into one of our projects. What loads can the steel composite beam bear?<\/strong><\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n

Because each beam is always designed specifically for the project, we always optimise the load bearing capacity and geometry of each beam during the detailed planning stage of each project. A: You can download our most typical cross-sections from our website <\/em>Revit Families<\/em><\/a>. We will also sort out any geometrical issues in relation to cross-section or other construction components used in conjunction with the beam.<\/em><\/em><\/p>\n\n\n\n

Q: How does a GSY BEAM\u00ae<\/sup> absorb twisting loads?<\/strong><\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n

A: In the final scenario, the beam needs to be retained against twisting loads by the cast casement as dimensioned by an expert advisor.<\/em><\/p>\n\n\n\n

Q: Does a GSY BEAM\u00ae<\/sup> have a camber?<\/strong><\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n

A: All beams with lengths exceeding four metres are performed with a minimum 10mm camber. Cambers correspond to deformations at full mounted load and 20% payload.<\/em><\/p>\n\n\n\n

Q: How do we ensure compliance with comfort requirements?<\/strong><\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n

A: If there are any requirements concerning the beam\u2019s comfort, these are complied with by calculating the beam\u2019s natural resonance frequency and considering steel and concrete into the stiffness of the beam. If this is not achieved, we investigate the beams acceleration level, which is a more accurate way of assuring compliance with vibrational comfort requirements. We investigate the steel beam\u2019s acceleration level, including the casting concrete.<\/em><\/p>\n\n\n\n

Q&A Installation<\/strong><\/strong><\/h3>\n\n\n\n

Q: How are fill braces installed around and through the beams?<\/strong><\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n

A: Our technical department designs the beam according to casement plans and detailed diagrams provided by an expert advisor. We are more than happy to attend meetings with our customers and to assist by providing advice to customers, advisors and installation contractors and discussing the advantages and disadvantages of selected solutions, based on the engineering project itself and our detailed principles, with a view to choosing the most optimal solutions for the project as a whole.<\/em><\/em><\/p>\n\n\n\n

Q: Can protective guards be fitted onto individual GSY-E BEAM edge beams?<\/strong><\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n

A: If so desired, we are able to weld brackets onto the beams for the installation of guards.<\/em><\/p>\n\n\n\n

Q: Can single GSY-E BEAM edge beams be performed with casting skirts?<\/strong><\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n

A: If so required, we are able to weld on casting skirts on the exposed edge of the body of the beam to optimise casting processes.<\/em><\/p>\n\n\n\n

Q: How does a GSY BEAM\u00ae<\/sup> absorb torsional flex?<\/strong><\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n

A: During installation, stability is assured temporarily by supporting the beam\u2019s flanges. Please see our <\/em>installation guidelines<\/em><\/a>.<\/em><\/p>\n\n\n\n

Q: Why is GSY BEAMTM  <\/sup> supplied with a triangle in the upper and lower flanges, with a body at one end?<\/strong><\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n

A: GSY BEAM TM<\/sup> is supplied with a directional label (Triangle Mark), to ensure correct orientation, as shown in planning materials.
